Excursion Details
Embark on an unforgettable journey to Demre, Myra, Kekova and discover unique pages of Turkish history, immersing yourself in the atmosphere of ancient times and Christian traditions. The excursion will introduce you to the cult monuments of the Lycian Kingdom and the most important Christian shrines.
Your day will start early in the morning, around 08:00-08:30 (transfer time depends on the hotel location) when a comfortable bus will pick you up from your hotel. The journey begins with the picturesque Mediterranean coastline, where along the way you will stop in the mountains to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Kumluca, famous for its tomatoes.
The first stop on the route will be Finike , an ancient port city with a centuries-old history. Here you will continue your journey to Myra - a place where the greatness of the Lycian kingdom and Roman culture were embodied. Among the ancient ruins, the rock tombs carved in stone and the well-preserved amphitheater stand out in particular . In the 4th century, St. Nicholas lived and worked here - the same St. Nicholas the Wonderworker whose relics rest in the Church of St. Nicholas in Demre . The church is decorated with colorful frescoes and is a significant place for believers who come here every year to ask the saint for a miracle.
After visiting Demre, you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then take a short trip to Ucağız Port . There, you will begin a cruise following the footsteps of the sunken city of Kekova . This once prosperous island now hides in its depths the ruins of the city of Dohiliste , which was destroyed by an earthquake in the 2nd century BC. You will be able to explore underwater sarcophagi , ruins of fortresses, theaters and amphorae, visible through a glass window on the bottom of the boat. If you wish, you can swim in the beautiful bay, enjoying the peace and quiet of these historical places.
